Absentee Ballot Info

UPDATE: East Lansing Residents can now track their absentee ballots online.

You are eligible for an absentee voter ballot if you have registered to vote in person at a Secretary of State office or your local city or township clerk's office, or if you have voted in any previous election. Answers to frequently asked questions for specific states can be found on Harvard's Website.

To receive an absentee ballot you will need to either send a written, signed request to your local city or township clerk requesting an absentee voter ballot, or apply for one in person at your clerk's office. You must meet one of the six requirements in order to qualify.

You can download an absentee request form. This form must be submitted to your local county or city clerk. If you do not know the address of your clerk, you can find it on this list.

According to Michigan law, if you did not register in person, or have not voted in Michigan before, you must vote in person.

However, one way around this is to request an absentee ballot in person. You can go in person to your local city or township clerk's office prior to election day and request an absentee voter ballot to fill out and submit to the clerk right then.

Find out where you are registered, just enter your name and find out where you are registered, who your clerk is, and where the office is located.

If you are outside of the United States, a Federal Postcard Application can be used to apply for an absentee ballot. More information can be found on the international study absentee voting information site.
