ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION

You are eligible for an absentee voter ballot if you have registered to vote in person at a Secretary of State office or your local city or township clerk's office, or if you have voted in any previous election.

If so, you will need to either send a written, signed request to your local city or township clerk requesting an absentee voter ballot, or apply for one in person at your clerk's office. You must have one of the six reasons to request it.

You can download a copy of a form that can be used to request an absentee ballot here. This form must be submitted to your local county or city clerk. If you do not know the address of your clerk, a complete list can be found here. Absentee ballot requests must be received by 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 1.

According to Michigan law, iIf you did not register in person, or have not voted before in Michigan, you must vote in person. You cannot request an absentee ballot and vote by mail if you did not register in person or have never voted in Michigan.

One way you can satisfy this requirement, however, is to request an absentee ballot in person. You can go in person to your local city or township clerk's office prior to election day (All city and township clerks are required by law to have office hours Saturday, November 1 for absentee voting) and request an absentee voter ballot to fill out and submit to the clerk right then. You can vote by absentee ballot in person at the clerk's office anytime up until 4 p.m. on Monday, November 3.

If you are outside of the United States, a Federal Postcard Application can be used to apply for an absentee ballot. This form can be found here, as well as at U.S. embassies and military bases abroad.
